The Atelier de Paris-Carolyn Carlson has been in activity for 10 years.

This is the occasion for us to reaffirm with even more conviction our fundamental principles.

Atelier de Paris

Project

AN INNOVATIVE PROGRAM OF MASTERCLASSES

Each year, the Atelier de Paris provides more than 350 dancers and performing arts professionals with continuing education programs of the highest caliber taught by some of the most important artists on the international scene today.

The one- and two-week masterclasses create an atmosphere ripe for artistic exchange. Participants are given the opportunity to discover an artist’s world and experiment with his or her choreographic concepts firsthand. Each aspect – technique, repertoire and research – becomes its own unique experience. The program, which takes into account the very latest developments in dance, may be followed up by a period of reflection extending past the end of the class.

The creative workshops are more specifically designed around a choreographer’s creative process, in collaboration with other artists. Emphasis is placed on the relationship between dance and other art forms (music, theater, visual arts, video, and so on). Coursework usually culminates with the writing of a short form that is presented to the public. The Atelier de Paris is committed to adapting to students’ expectations and professional goals, and to helping them through any difficulties they may encounter. The Atelier guarantees students continuing personal attention, assisting them in the successful completion of their coursework by proposing concrete solutions.

SUPPORT FOR YOUNG CHOREOGRAPHERS

Since 2005, the Atelier de Paris has added a stewardship program for choreographers and their companies to its primary mission as an educator. The program has two components: residencies help choreographers develop new works and naming associate artists help promising choreographers expand their professional horizons.

The residencies are invitations to work in the studio, bounce ideas off the in-house team, discover new artists, make connections with the Atelier’s partners, and meet the public at friendly get-togethers and events. According to the specific needs of each company, the Atelier de Paris tries to supply answers on a personal basis, whether the concern is artistic, technical or business-related.

The Atelier de Paris is willing to make a more lasting impact through its support of two associate artists: Rosalind Crisp and Juha Marsalo. This support comes in the form of free work space, financial backing for productions and a guaranteed slot in the JUNE EVENTS festival and at other Paris and metroarea venues. The Atelier also helps manage their companies and promote their works, offering them services ranging from canvassing for venues to booking tours. Associate artists also participate in the master class program and regularly appear at studio events.
