An up-and-coming actor from Montreal’s art scene, choreographer Manuel Roque came to dance by way of the theater and the Éloize Circus before joining the company of Marie Chouinard, Paul-André Fortier, Sylvain Emard… and choreographing his own pieces starting in 2002. “A stage piece for a kamikaze soloist,” BANG BANG is a contemporary ritual that gives the body, at its most combatant and desperate, a chance to speak. Using the meaning of the ordeal as a metaphor for the rhythms of contemporary Western life, the dance continues until the loss of self. And it is only when the sweat flows and the cracks show that the intimacy of being implicitly appears.
