After studying at the Juilliard School in New York Susan Buirge joins the Alwin Nikolaïs company. Then she takes an independent path and works on repetitive process, abstract minimalism while defending a sensual dance. She travels to discover other traditions and enhances in Japan her research about relations between traditional and contemporary art. Director of the center for choreographic research and composition of the Fondation Royaumont, Susan Buirge will live in Japan from Spring 2008.

As a starting point, a technical class will allow participants to acquire a common base of language elements. In the second part of the workshop, this will form the basis of an exploration of the different principals of relationship through improvisation and short compositions to be devised throughout the week.
