Pichet Klunchun bridges traditional Thaï classical dance language with contemporary sensibility, while keeping the heart and wisdom of the convention. He has been trained in Thaï classical mask dance Khon since he is sixteen with Chaiyot Khummanee, one of the best Khon masters in Thailand. In 2005 he creates a dance-dialogue performance with Jerome Bel, Pichet Klunchun and myself.

The masterclass with Pichet Klunchun has four stages of learning process. First, meditation with and without movement to get to know one’s feeling and thinking while moving. Then a Khon basic training : the important point is to use the body of participants, which are the bodies of the present time, in memorizing the dance art form that was created 200 years ago and an analysis of movements, body, feeling, idea, philosophy, story, culture and character that are relating factors to the dance and the participants. Finally, developing the knowledge learned from the first three stages each one will create movements into his own style.
