Résumé
Linehan s’appuie sur 15 ans d’expérience en tant que chorégraphe, approfondissant et développant des partitions chorégraphiques diverses ainsi que des pratiques physiques issues de son histoire. Nous travaillerons pour cultiver des formes nuancées d’attention et d’engagement avec nous-mêmes ainsi qu’avec notre environnement. Linehan encourage un retour aux principes de base du corps en mouvement : respiration, circularité, vibration et toucher. Nous nous exercerons à prendre soin de notre propre corps et partirons à la recherche de formes diverses et communes aux autres. En prenant conscience de l’énergie propre aux lieux que nous habitons, nous ferons usage de notre lien avec notre environnement direct afin d’insuffler de nouvelles façons d’être et de se déplacer. Est-il possible d’atteindre un état dans lequel le fait de « danser » et le fait de « donner de l’attention » ont la même signification ?

Dans son propre travail chorégraphique, Linehan cherche à obscurcir, en douceur, la frontière qui sépare la danse de tout le reste. Il aborde la création de performances du point de vue de l’amateur curieux, en testant les nombreuses interactions entre la danse et les formes de non-danse, à la recherche d’improbables conjonctions, juxtapositions et parallèles entre les textes, mouvements, images, chansons, vidéos et rythmes.
Daniel Linehan a travaillé comme danseur et chorégraphe à New York, avant de s’installer à Bruxelles en 2008 où il a suivi le Cycle de Recherche à P.A.R.T.S. En tant qu’interprète, Linehan a travaillé, entre autres, avec Miguel Gutierrez et Big Art Group. En 2007- 2008, il fut Artiste en Résidence au Movement Research. A New York, il crée, avec une équipe de quatre danseurs, des performances basées sur le texte et la danse. En 2007, il crée le solo Not About Everything qui, depuis sa première, a été joué dans plus de 75 théâtres du monde entier.
Ses projets plus récents, créés en Belgique, sont Montage for Three (2009), Being Together Without any Voice (2010), Zombie Aporia (2011), Gaze is a Gap is a Ghost (2012), The Karaoke Dialogues (2014), Un Sacre du Printemps (2015), dbddbb (2015), Flood (2017), Third Space (2018) et Body of Work (2019).
Linehan travaille également sur des projets plus particuliers : Vita Activa, un atelier codirigé avec Michael Helland, à l’attention de 40 participants sans-emploi et qui aborde les questions de fonctions de temps et de travail. Le livre A No Can Make Space (2013) créé en collaboration avec le graphiste Gerard Leysen (Afreux), qui retrace 10 ans de pratique chorégraphique et untitled duet (2013), un projet diffusé en live dans le cadre des Performance Room Series du Tate Modern de Londres.

Linehan draws upon 15 years of experience creating choreographic work, reflecting and elaborating upon diverse dance scores and physical practices from his history. We will work to cultivate nuanced forms of attention and engagement with ourselves and our surroundings. Linehan encourages a return to the fundamentals of the body in motion: breath, circularity, vibration, and touch. We will practice taking care of our own bodies and finding diverse forms of commonness with others. By noticing the vibrancy of the places we inhabit, we will use our connection with our immediate environment to inspire new ways of moving and being. Can we reach a state in which “dancing” and “giving attention” mean the same thing?
Linehan’s choreographic work is intent on softly obscuring the line that separates dance from everything else. He approaches performance-making from the point of view of a curious amateur, testing various interactions between dance and non-dance forms, searching for unlikely conjunctions, juxtapositions, and parallels between texts, movements, images, songs, videos, and rhythms.
Linehan first studied dance in Seattle and then moved to New York in 2004. As a performer, Linehan worked with Miguel Gutierrez and Big Art Group, among other artists. His own choreographic work first came to public attention in 2004 with the solo Digested Noise, presented in Fresh Tracks at Dance Theater Workshop. In 2005 and 2006, he worked with a team of four other dancers to create The Sun Came and Human Content Pile. Linehan was a 2007-2008 Movement Research Artist-in-Residence. In 2007, he premiered the solo Not About Everything, which has since been presented in over 75 venues internationally.
In 2008, Linehan moved to Brussels where he completed the Research Cycle at P.A.R.T.S. in 2010. His works created in Belgium include Montage for Three (2009), Being Together without any Voice (2010), Zombie Aporia (2011), Gaze is a Gap is a Ghost (2012), Doing While Doing (2012), The Karaoke Dialogues (2014), Un Sacre du Printemps (2015), dbddbb (2015), Flood (2017), Third Space (2018) and Body of Work (2019).
Linehan also developed Vita Activa (2013), a participatory project for 40 unemployed people culminating in a final public performance, co-directed with Michael Helland; the book A No Can Make Space (2013) which gathers and organizes the traces of Linehan’s ten years of choreographic practice, created in collaboration with graphic designer Gerard Leysen (Afreux); and untitled duet (2013), a work streamed live as part of the Performance Room Series at Tate Modern in London.
